Node Deployment Checklist (JTXMesh)¶
Use this checklist when deploying a new fixed or mobile node.
1) Pre-Deployment¶
- [ ] Device tested and charging/power stable
- [ ] Firmware updated to a known-good version
- [ ] Region set correctly (US / 915 MHz)
- [ ] Unique node name set (no personal address info)
- [ ] Channel plan applied (Primary + Emergency at minimum)
- [ ] CERT / Ops / Test channels enabled only if needed
- [ ] TX power set per recommendations
- [ ] Telemetry / GPS intervals set conservatively
- [ ] If using MQTT: gateway plan documented and secured
2) RF / Antenna¶
- [ ] Antenna installed and matched (correct band)
- [ ] Coax/connectors verified (no loose SMA/RP-SMA confusion)
- [ ] Antenna placed high and clear of obstructions where possible
- [ ] For outdoor installs: weatherproofing done (tape/heatshrink/drip loop)
- [ ] Node is not co-located with strong EMI sources when possible
3) Coverage Validation¶
- [ ] Confirm node shows up in local mesh
- [ ] Send/receive test message on Primary
- [ ] Confirm Emergency channel is reachable (brief check only)
- [ ] Walk/drive test: verify at least one reliable path to another node
- [ ] If node is intended as relay: confirm routing improves coverage
4) Operations & Documentation¶
- [ ] Add node to maps/topology (approx location if privacy required)
- [ ] Document: device model, antenna type, height, power, install notes
- [ ] Label node physically (node name + owner contact method if appropriate)
- [ ] Confirm maintenance plan (power, reboots, updates)
5) Emergency Readiness (Optional)¶
- [ ] Go-kit battery pack tested
- [ ] Spare cables/charging solution included
- [ ] Printed “Before You Transmit” page included
- [ ] CERT channel enabled only for trained operators
