Default Meshtastic Channel Plan¶
JTXMesh
This channel plan balances usability, safety, and airtime efficiency.
Channel Overview¶
| Channel | Name | Purpose | Encryption | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | LongFast | General mesh traffic | Public (AQ==) | Default Meshtastic key |
| 1 | jtxm-alerts | Emergency & priority traffic | Public (AQ==) | Low chatter |
| 2 | jtxm-gen | General community & CERT coordination | Public (AQ==) | Open to all |
| 3 | jtxm-mqtt | MQTT bridge & telemetry | Public (AQ==) | Ingest gateway |
| 4 | jtxm-ops | Operator coordination | Private key | Mesh operators only |
Encryption Guidance¶
- Channels 0–3 all use the default Meshtastic key (
AQ==) — any node on the mesh can receive them - Only jtxm-ops (ch 4) uses a private pre-shared key, restricted to mesh operators
- The ops key is shared in-person or via a trusted, encrypted mechanism
- Do not publish the ops key publicly
- Emergency services may request plaintext summaries outside the mesh
Channel Discipline¶
- jtxm-alerts: emergency and priority traffic only — no casual chat
- jtxm-ops: operator coordination only — not for general use
- Keep routine chatter on LongFast or jtxm-gen

Scanning this QR code will replace your existing channel settings on the device. Back up your current configuration first if needed.
The jtxm-ops key is not included in the QR code — it must be configured separately by mesh operators.
